Infection forecasting: challenges and opportunities
Why can’t we predict the severity of your next flu infection the same way we forecast the behavior of approaching storm systems? What are the greatest gaps in our knowledge of how infectious disease works? How could one begin to address such grand challenges? I will report highlights from recent “ideas lab” responses to these questions by leading experts of infectious disease, mathematical/computational modeling, and quantitative biology. I will also describe very initial steps we and others at the interface between physical and biological sciences are presently taking to eventually predict how infections of individual patients will behave.
All qBio sponsored talks take place on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. in the 3rd floor Orchard View room of the Discovery Building unless otherwise noted. Talks are open to the public. Access to the room is via the elevator behind Aldo’s Cafe in the Northeast corner of the building.
