Estimating phylogenetic trees with neural network models


Shengwen Yang was raised in Nanchang, China. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, major in mathematics and computer science, and certificated in game design. He is now in the Master's program of data science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Research Description

  • Define a Neural Network model that explicitly addresses the symmetries in the data for trees on 4 taxa
  • Test the NN model on a variety of different simulations to assess robustness to noise and generalization
