Elucidating Mechanisms of Chromatin Dysregulation by Oncohistones in Pediatric Cancers

High-grade pediatric gliomas are among the leading causes of cancer death in children, and recent work points to the epigenome as a previously unsuspected driver of these intractable tumors. The relative genetic simplicity of pediatric gliomas and bone tumors promises general insights into how mutations in the chromatin machinery affect downstream gene expression pathways to drive tumorigenesis. The goal of our research project is to illuminate the molecular mechanisms that underlie oncogenic histone mutations in order to advance the exploration of therapeutic avenues.
