WID: The Challenge of Transdisciplinary Science — BIONATES

‘WID: The challenge of transdisciplinary science’ is a podcast series produced by Chris Bocast, a UW–Madison graduate student and WID Emerging Interfaces Award recipient. The series, which can be found on iTunesU, explores the institute’s research areas, growing ideas and culture during its first year.

In this podcast, WID researcher Randy Ashton delves into what it means to approach tissue engineering from multiple angles, including stem cell science, plastics engineering and nanotechnology. As Ashton explains, BIONATES, a research area at the institute that stands for “Bionanocomposite Tissue Engineering Scaffolds,” examines how the body provides cues to instruct cells to form a particular tissue type and how to use that knowledge to develop medical solutions to disease and illness.
