From WID Director Jo Handelsman:
June is Pride Month, a celebration of our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends, family, and community members. At WID we work continually to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all people, and this month we highlight our commitment to standing in solidarity with these communities that are more likely to feel the impact of prejudice, inequity, and oppression. Pride Month is celebrated in June each year to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising of June 28, 1969, a riot led by queer and trans people of color against harassment by police and which galvanized the Gay Rights Movement.
Please take time this month to celebrate your authentic self and/or the LGBTQ+ people in your community, learn about the history of oppression and civil rights abuses against LGBTQ+ people, and engage with events and resources that support and honor Pride.
