Research Description

The main questions driving David Baum’s research in WID are, How do life-like chemical systems first originate? and, How can we detect new life-like chemical systems in the laboratory? These questions are addressed by bridging in vitro chemistry with evolutionary theory, using an artificial ecosystem selection approach. Additionally, Baum conducts research on the origin of eukaryotic cell structure, and the delimitation of species.
